The sanskrit word 'Yoga' translates as the act of' yoking' or 'finding union'. It can be loosely interpreted as 'bringing into balance'. We see this truth when we understand the pranayama practice of Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) & when we  translate  'Hatha' Yoga (the Grandmother of all forms of Yoga practiced today)  "HA" = Sun "THA"= Moon. 
Hatha Yoga is intended to balance our Sun & Moon energies or our masculine and feminine bodies, our active and passive nervous systems, our internal heating & cooling systems ... all tied to Sun and Moon energy. 

Everytime we come to the mat we are actively partaking in the Yoking or Uniting of Breath & Movement, Mind & Body, Gross & Subtle energy bodies. It's this balancing effort that imbibes us with the 'Yoga Magic' we  feel when we leave our mats. 

If you have felt this 'yoga magic' you should know that there is even more untapped Magic in all of us.  Blue Banyan is committed to helping you experience that Magic through a series of offerings.  These offerings will explore the bones of Yoga & how they hold us up from the inside out.  Here's a sneak peek of what we've got coming up...

Soul Yoga $10 - The 1st saturday of every month.  This class extends an intentional invitation to practitioners of color. ALL WELCOME

Sciatica Workshop Jan 16th $25-
We will practice floor and standing poses to help prevent and ease lower back pain & Sciatica pain. No previous experience nec. 

Beginners Series -6 weeks Sun, January 21 $75- This 6-week series is designed to teach to the needs of the brand-new-beginner! 

Strong Body, Steady Mind: Harnessing the Courage for Change- 4 week series ,Tues February 6 $100
 A 4-week discussion and movement based series that focuses on helping participants use the ancient philosophical ideas of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras and asana practice to guide them into social change, working to build equitable and inclusive communities.

Restorative Yoga-Fri, March 2 $25
Carly will offer a 2-hour space of gentle postures, supported by blocks, bolsters, and blankets, to guide you into a state of "being" over "doing." 

21 Day Detox -March 5 $75
An elimination diet is to rid the body of toxins that have built up over time by eating foods that are inflammatory to the system. We will have an info session on Sunday February 25th at 11:00am in our Sprague st location, 7153 Sprague St 

Blue Banyan Yoga Advanced Teacher Training The Ayurveda Yoga Teaching Model: Nine Planet Yoga Sequence. Lead By Sarah Tomlinson & Sophie Simpson April 27th $450 This three day, 21 hour module, we will expose you to an Ancient Ayurvedic Healing Sequence. Over the course of the weekend we will explore & study how this ancient approach to Hatha Yoga is a remedy for physical, mental-emotional, and spiritual well-being & healing. $500 - 50 hours of credit towards 500hr Yoga Alliance Certificate. This includes assignments and study outside of the studio $450 - 21 hour Ayurvedic Yoga Certificate.
